Riverside Technology, inc. (RTi) uses state of the art hydrologic and
hydraulic models, real-time satellite imagery, and high resolution digital
elevation models for forecasting floods and producing flood inundation maps
in support of disaster management.
Updated automatically with every system execution, flood inundation maps can
be produced in real-time based on the observed and forecasted conditions.
Flood inundation maps also can be produced to identify the extent of
flooding at a given point in time, the maximum extent of flooding for
an entire event, or to show a forecasted future event.
Hydrologic data collected at stream-gaging stations and communicated
in real-time via satellite are incorporated into hydrologic models for
hydrologic forecasting and weather advisories. RTi's
RiverTrak® Streamflow Forecasting System processes real-time
rainfall and basin streamflow data to produce forecasts for major basin
areas subject to flooding. An estimate of the 50-year flood plain developed
from the HEC-RAS model is incorporated into the real-time forecasting system,
and water surface elevations computed for each river channel cross-section by
HEC-RAS are input into the mapping system component. The RiverTrak® System
can be configured for integration with a variety of mapping packages to produce
the flood inundation maps.
Used by emergency managers, floodplain administrators, and water supply
organizations, flood inundation maps are valuable for prediction and analysis
of areas of inundation resulting from riverine flooding. RTi's real-time
flood inundation maps are available for immediate use, providing the timely
information needed to support agencies in emergency management.
