Spatial Analysis Projects

Spatial analysis with GIS plays a key role in many of RTi's projects.
Spatial data are used as inputs to river forecasting models and are
created and maintained with GIS. Our modelers rely on the results from
GIS analysis of hydrologic and climatic spatial data to calibrate sub-basin
river forecast models. RTi also uses GIS to create maps to visualize basin
features, topography, and climatic data.
Flood Inundation Mapping
This picture was developed using the ESRI GIS technology combined with National
Weather Service FLDWAV program, which is a one-dimensional dynamic streamflow
routing model. This methodology is applicable to other one-dimensional models,
such as UNET and HEC-RAS, which is included in RTi's RiverTrak system. RTi also
offers two-dimensional routing solutions. Flood inundation maps can be produced
to identify the extent of flooding at a given point in time or the maximum
extent of flooding over an entire event. Maps can be produced to show the
extent of flooding for a historical event or to simulate future events.
