Water Organizations Projects
|
At the local and community level, RTi staff and associates have been directly
responsible for the formation, establishment, development, and strengthening
of numerous local, community-based water organizations worldwide. Some of
these projects have included establishing and developing local Village Water
Organizations (VWOs) for drinking water in five communities in Central Asia
serving 60,000 people, or approximately 15,000 households. RTi staff and
associates also have helped to establish and develop 26 Water User
Associations (WUAs) covering 95,000 hectares, and 90 WUAs covering
tens of thousands of hectares.
RTI staff and associates have been directly responsible for both
large and small scale community-driven and stakeholder participation projects.
These services have included developing institutional mechanisms and arrangements
for participatory projects, and linking/coordinating the physical and
institutional components of complex water management projects. Specific
activities have included developing and implementing coordinating mechanisms
between local water user groups and rehabilitation activities for large
irrigation systems in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
