In an historic effort, the ten countries of the Nile have come together in a World Bank-sponsored Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) to achieve sustainable development through the equitable utilization of the common water resources of the Nile Basin.

The Water Resources Planning and Management Project (WRPMP) of the NBI is focused on the development and management of the water resources of the Nile Basin in an equitable, optimal, integrated, and sustainable manner through the facilitation of integrated basin-wide water resources planning and management. Riverside Technology, inc. (RTi) assisted in the development of the WRPMP Project Implementation plan (PIP), including plans for a Decision Support System (DSS) for the Nile Basin.

The WRPMP PIP describes the institutional arrangements as well as the technical components for water resources policy, project planning and management, and the Nile DSS. The Nile DSS will support informed regional decision-making by providing a common platform for communication, the exchange of information, and water resources analysis.

RTi also was instrumental in developing the plan for the establishment and operation of the Nile Basin Resource Center, which will provide a centralized location to support communication, information sharing, and collaboration among the Nile riparian countries.
