Rio Grande Decision Support System (RGDSS) Systems Integration

Riverside Technology, inc. (RTi) was selected by the State of Colorado to provide system integration services to develop a decision support system (DSS) for analysis of water resource issues and water administration in the Rio Grande Basin. RTi had previously been the lead for the RGDSS feasibility study and was therefore familiar with basin issues. RGDSS supports enhanced management and administration of the Rio Grande in Colorado by providing user friendly water resource databases, models, and data viewing and visualization tools. The system integration consisted primarily of software and database development and enhancement, web page development, user and software support.

RGDSS enhanced the features of the Colorado River Decision Support System (CRDSS) to include additional data, modeling, and visualization capability required to address issues in the Rio Grande basin. The addition of features to model ground water and the interaction with the surface water system was the largest change to the system. The extension of CRDSS was recommended in the feasibility study because the existing system framework was well suited for use in RGDSS and the use of the existing system would build on the previous investment made by the State.

RTi project tasks included modification of the HydroBase database design to store well and ground water data, database population, enhancement of data management interface software to allow ground water data to be used in the modeling system, and enhancement of the StateMod (surface water allocation model) graphical user interface to support groundwater and daily data.

RTi continues to enhance the system and provide support to the State to further database and model development for Rio Grande basin studies.
