NOAA Integrated Data and Environmental Applications (IDEA) Center Support

The National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service (NESDIS), is responsible for operating the Nation’s civilian satellites and for creating, archiving and distributing environmental information. RTi is assisting NESDIS in planning and deploying the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration Integrated Data and Environmental Applications (NOAA IDEA) Center in Honolulu, Hawaii with technical and program management support. The NOAA IDEA Center will advance NOAA’s mission objectives of meeting critical regional needs for ocean, climate, and ecosystem information to protect lives and property, support economic development and enhance the resilience of Pacific Island communities in the face of changing environmental conditions. Through partnerships with the East West Center, support contractors, the University of Hawaii and other academic institutions, RTi is playing a pivotal role in addressing NOAA and NESDIS’ mission goals.

RTi’s support for the NOAA IDEA Center development and operation includes:

• Providing expert technical contractor support in key subject matter areas to develop data products of economic, safety and environmental benefit to the Pacific community.
• Developing the computational and telecommunications infrastructure to support on-line public access to information services.
• Public education and outreach through workshops and learning opportunities to raise public awareness of local, regional, and global environmental issues.
• Supporting the emergence of regional ocean and climate observing systems and information services that are responsive to needs of Pacific Island communities, governments, and businesses.
• Advocating and conducting integrated ecosystem science and services needed for Pacific Island ocean and coastal resource management programs.
