Agricultural Sector Review and Planning in Uzbekistan
Riverside analyzed and assessed the current institutional constraints in the Uzbek agricultural sector, recommended needed institutional reforms and implemented a successful participatory assessment process.
Asia
Riverside remains dedicated to improving Asian countries' flood forecasting and hydrological and hydrometeorological data collection capabilities. Riverside staff have provided key institutional support to Asian Ministries of Water Resources and Agriculture including capacity building, training, developing policy reforms, and institutional restructuring.
A partial list of countries in Asia where Riverside has implemented projects include:
India
Riverside worked with the US National Weather Service (NWS) installing the National Weather Service River Forecast System (NWSRFS) and training local staff to use it in numerous river basins in India.
China
Riverside worked with China's Ministry of Water Resources on a National Flood Control Decision Support System, including developing a hydraulic model using the unsteady flow component of HEC-RAS.
Bangladesh
Riverside has years of experience in Bangladesh, developing an operational system that provides accurate and timely information on current and forecasted flood conditions using hydrologic models, GIS, and remote sensing. Information is then disseminated to local government and communities in a format that is understood and useful for community level flood mitigation.
Central Asian Republics
Riverside worked with the NWS and Central Asian hydrometeorology agencies developing and implementing prototype forecast systems in selected river basins.
Riverside staff have supported, strengthened, and helped to restructure Ministries of Water Resources and Agriculture in Central Asia. In Uzbekistan, Riverside designed and implemented participatory planning and consensus building processes for Uzbek farm leaders and government officials to formulate a national agricultural sector strategy. In Tajikistan, Riverside helped design a multi-million dollar irrigation rehabilitation project, and also helped Tajikistan's Ministry of Water Resources and Land Reclamation to institutionalize a long-term Water User Association Support unit connected to the Ministry.
Vietnam
Riverside worked with the NWS and Vietnam's Central Committee for Flood and Storm Forecasting designing and recommending new technologies to manage hydrometeorological data, develop flood forecasts, and provide early warnings in the Red River basin.
